NEWS: “The Icebreaker” has been honoured by Artists In Montreal! From among a distinguished group of entries, The Icebreaker won the Judges Choice Award, for AIM’s Winter Art Show 2025.

“The Icebreaker” was conceived as part of a series I’m painting involving children and umbrellas. I love the umbrella as a metaphor for agency and self determination; in this piece I’m playing with themes of freedom and curiosity. With a mittened-hand trailing, a child travelling across the Arctic ice by umbrella, effortlessly opens the glacial surface to reveal mysterious waters; a poetic daydream. In an escape to the most distant and inhospitable place one can think of, one finds serenity, calm and control over one’s own destiny.

Watercolour, 16 × 20”, painted with professional light-fast pigments on Ampersand Aquabord, and protected with Krylon UV-Resistant spray varnish. The painting has my insignia, JC Little, on the front, and has the title, date and signature on the back. I will include a certificate of authenticity with this painting. Aquabord may be framed without glass; a floating frame is a good option for the whole painting to be viewed. To preserve the painting from deterioration, display away from direct sunlight.
