“How To Stretch A Point” has been honoured by the Society of Canadian Artists! “The SCA's 2024 Open International Online Juried Exhibition received nearly 800 entries, from which 122 pieces were accepted into the Exhibition.” This painting is one of two of my pieces that were selected (the other being “Deadline”). View the exhibition here.

This painting was shown in the Women’s Art Society of Montreal (WASM) Art Exhibition at Galerie Valmi, October 2023.

The concept for this painting came from one of my Inktober sketches, specifically October 26, 2018, the prompt being “stretch”. It began as a thumbnail on a small post-it note which I then interpreted as a loose ink drawing in a sketchbook gifted to me by my friend Julie. I recently revisited this collection of Inktober sketches of mine and decided to turn them into paintings. I love the play on words of “How To Stretch A Point”, the whimsical idea that someone could stretch a point so far that it goes full circle and points back at them. This reveals layered themes of personal responsibility and accountability; it flirts with the notion of gaslighting, and serves as a caution against veering away from reality. The render is classical, with a twist, making full use of super-granulating watercolour pigments contrasting with transparent delicate tones of the female figure. This is a pure watercolour painting: all whites are the whites of the paper, no white paint was used. See the video below to watch me painting it. This artwork is for someone who loves and appreciates thought-provoking imagery with an inspirational mood. Ideal artwork for any living or working space. Reference model Emily Ravary.

It has been framed in a classical style, with an acid-free double matte, a superb Italian gold leaf frame and high quality acrylic ‘glass’ for safe shipping.

Watercolour, 14 x 20”, framed size is approximately 21.5 x 27.5”, painted with professional light-fast pigments on 100% cotton paper.
